Welcome to Physics 212!

Lecture

Be sure to do the prelecture and checkpoint before the due date (no late work allowed), they are available at https://smart.physics.illinois.edu/

Also be sure to watch the lecture videos. Although this is an online class (and videos can be watched asynchronously), these lectures help set the foundation for concepts and calculations you will be doing in lab, discussion and on the exams.

Homework

You can access the content at https://smart.physics.illinois.edu/ and you have full access for the first two weeks free of charge.

Sometime in the first two weeks you will need to pay for access by purchasing a code through the UIUC bookstore.

Details of how to pay for access are available via pdf.

You will also hand in the work (hand written is fine) for one of the homework problems (assigned by the instructor).  You will hand this in on gradescope.com

Discussion

Discussion will be held synchronously, online through Zoom on Tuesday and Thursday. You must attend your assigned discussion time. Students must be on time and prepared for discussion. You will need paper, pencil/pen and a calculator. You will also be taking both discussion quizzes and course exams during this discussion time period. Your work will be uploaded to gradescope.com for grading.

Laboratory

Labs will be asynchronous. However, there will be Zoom office hours on Monday and Wednesday to give you a time to ask questions of a lab TA (through Zoom) and troubleshoot any IOLab questions you have.  Please review the required materials list to see what you need. You will upload your lab reports to gradescope.com for grading.
