Explore It: Lab
Your lab team depends upon you. Be on time.
- A check-in activity will be done at the beginning of each lab period. This activitgy will be submitted through PrairieTest.
- If you are not in the lab when your TA checks students in and opens the assessment, you will be marked ABS.
- In-class attendance is required. Remote access will not be granted. If you are unable to attend lab, please request an excused absence.
- We do not allow one-time section switches to make up missed labs.
About the lab
The lab cycle (see course schedule) is designed to provide the opportunity to:
- explore the applications and implications of the concepts developed in lecture.
- build experimental planning skills.
- develop the confidence to independently explore physics ideas.
- practice scientific communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
The laboratory portion of this course will consist of eight (8) 3-hour laboratories and one lab practical.
- A prelab exercise completed on the Monday of each lab week.
- The laboratory exercise in which students will:
- read a brief describing a physics scenario for explaration.
- propose a scientific question and an experimental plan to explore it.
- perform measurements using their proposed experimental plan.
- analyze experimental results, including experimental uncertainties.
- draw conclusions based on their results.
- A laboratory write-up which will be completed during the session and turned in at the end of the lab session.
Active student participation is required in lab sections.
