About the lab

The lab cycle (see course schedule) is designed to provide the opportunity to:

The laboratory portion of this course will consist of eight (8) 3-hour laboratories and one lab practical.

  1. A prelab exercise completed on the Monday of each lab week.
  2. The laboratory exercise in which students will:
    1. read a brief describing a physics scenario for explaration.
    2. propose a scientific question and an experimental plan to explore it.
    3. perform measurements using their proposed experimental plan.
    4. analyze experimental results, including experimental uncertainties.
    5. draw conclusions based on their results.
  3. A laboratory write-up which will be completed during the session and turned in at the end of the lab session.

Active student participation is required in lab sections.
