You can access the content at https://smart.physics.illinois.edu/ and you have full access for the first two weeks free of charge. Sometime in the first two weeks you will need to pay for access by purchasing a code through the UIUC bookstore. Details of how to pay for access are available via pdf.
Week 3 (2/2-2/6) If you just joined the course, please take some time to review the course website and the Getting Started page. This page will help you make sure you are ready for each component of the class.
Here is a summary of our schedule and deadlines for Week 3:

- Class Meetings:
- Lecture 4 on Monday and Lecture 5 (guest lecturer!) on Wednesday
- Discussion 3

- [smartPhysics] Prelectures and Checkpoints 4 and 5 are due 8am on Monday and Wednesday, respectively
- Prelab 3 is due at 8am on Tuesday morning
- Homework 2 is due at 8am on Friday
- Action items
- Sign up for a Test 1 time slot in PrairieTest
- Office hours continue in 271 Loomis (schedule). Remember to add your question to the Office Hours Queue to get a bonus point.
- Test 1 will cover content from Lectures 1-4*, Homeworks 1-2, and Discussions 1-4* (the discussion 4 skill check will be on topic for test 1, but the problem set will not)
- Topics: Electric force, materials and charging, the force exerted on a charge by a known electric field
- Review lectures to prepare for conceptual questions
- Practice calculation problems from old Physics 102 exams
- Try the Practice Test in PrairieLearn [opens Monday evening, Feb 2]

Course Technology Summary
Course Component Summary: In Class Activities
Lecture

Occurs twice weekly, except University Holidays (Schedule).
- Will be based on the corresponding prelecture and checkpoint. Complete these before lecture.
Discussion

There are two components:
- A group problem set, submitted as a group assignment (GradeScope)
- A skills check taken individually (PrairieTest)

Students must be on time and prepared for discussion (Course Description, Discussion).
- Students should have the required materials for Discussion at each meeting (Required Materials)
Laboratory

There are three components, worked on in small student teams:
- A pre-lab activity to help you prepare for the experimental question (smartPhysics).
- A group activity to help you build a proposal for the day's experimental question.
- A final team lab report (GradeScope).

Students must be on time and prepared for discussion (Course Description, Lab).
- Students should have the required materials for Lab at each meeting (Required Materials).

Exams
- Exams will be given at the Computer Based Testing Facility.

- Online weekly homework accessed through smartPhysics.

Excused Absences
- Please submit your excused absence no later than 12 business days after your absence via the Excused Absences application.

Registering After the First Day of Classes
If you registered after the first day of classes but before the 10th day of classes:
- It is your responsibility to contact your lecturer and organize a plan for make-up work.
- You must do this before the 8th week of classes.
