The first honors homework is now posted. It's due
February 26th.
The honors add-on does supplementary assignments, whose content varies from term to term.
This term, we'll be doing Scheme assignments similar to last term.
This add-on is is intended for students with strong background, e.g. James
scholar and/or a strong GPA plus an A in the prerequisite courses.
This term, it will probably involve some programming in Scheme.
All the students in the honors add-on do the same extra work. However, the James scholar
programs in different colleges want the paperwork done in different ways.
- If you are not a James scholar,
you'll need permission from Steve Herzog (smherzog@illinois.edu) or
Margaret Fleck (mfleck@illinois.edu).
Email us a brief summary of your grades in previous math/CS courses.
- ENGINEERING STUDENTS and LAS students who are not James scholars:
Register for the honors add-on to CS 173, i.e. CS 196 section 73 (1 sh). Be careful not to register
for the wrong section, which will be the honors add-on for a totally different class.
- LAS STUDENTS who are James scholars:
fill out an EHCLA (electronic honors credit learning agreement)
for CS 173. When it asks you to describe the extra work,
say that you'll complete the assignments for CS 196, section 73.
(But do not actually register for CS 196.)
- DGS STUDENTS: fill out an EHCLA (electronic honors credit learning agreement)
for CS 173. When it asks you to describe the extra work,
say that you'll complete the assignments for CS 196, section 73.
You can optionally also register for CS 196 (section 73) to get an
extra 1sh of credit.
- OTHER COLLEGES: ask the honors office for your college how they want the paperwork done.
The honors section does not have its own meeting time. Announcements
are made via the regular 173 lectures and Piazza.
