Interference & Diffraction Model

If you would like to play with interference & diffraction patterns from multi-slit setups I've built a spreadsheet model you can play with.

Extra Discussion Points!

Due Date:  Reading Day, 13 December 2018!

To help you prepare for your final exam, and reward all of your hard work in discussion, we will add your PrairieLearn Review Assignment scores to your quiz score. Here's how it will work:

  1. Your review assignment scores will be averaged together.
  2. The result will be uploaded to the grade book as Quiz 11.
  3. We will increase the number of dropped quizzes from 1 to 2.

You will have one opportunity to have your review assignment instances reset according to the following schedule.  Remember, if your instance is reset, all of your previous scores will be erased and you will be starting over.

SUCCESS Seminar Slides

From the SUCCESS seminar #1, here's a copy of the slides to help you study for Exams 2 & 3.

 

flipitPhysics

 

You will need to get flipitPhysics access and do the first Prelecture and Checkpoint before you go to the first lecture.

  1. Go to http://flipitphysics.com.
  2. Click on the Register button, and create an account using your < NetID@illinois.edu > email address
  3. Complete your profile, then click on the Enrollments Tab
  4. Click on the Join a Course link and enter UIP102FA18
  5. Enter your NetID (e.g. whatever is in front of @illinois.edu in your email address) and click Enroll Course

You will need to join a second (FREE) FlipItPhysics class in order to have access to the course lab materials. The instructions below assume you have already signed up for FlipItPhysics as described above. 

  1. Go to http://flipitphysics.com and log into your account, (or if you are already logged in just click the account link at the top). 
  2. Click on the Join a Course link and enter code UIP102FA18_LAB  (e.g. same as the main course access code but with "_LAB" at the end)
  3. Enter your NetID (e.g. whatever is in front of "@illinois.edu" in your email address) and click Enroll Course

Lecture

Students must be on time and prepared for lecture.

Laboratory

Each student will need an IOLab device (available at the book store).

You will do a hands-on Pre-Lab activity using your IOLab device before every lab, guided by theFlipItPhysics Lab course you signed up for above. In your weekly lab section you will work in groups to design and understand experiments and experimental data, also using your IOLab device. 

The first pre-lab is due at 8 am on Thursday September 6, and the first lab sections run Thursday morning (Sept 6) through Friday afternoon (Sept 7). 

You will upload your lab reports to https://my.physics.illinois.edu/courses/upload/
