• Heat is a form of energy – internal energy of a material made up of atoms in motion(Atoms? More about them later)

• Heat always flows from hotter to colder bodies

• Two bodies in isolation tend to come to the same temperature

• Observed for thousands of years – given precise definition with heat as a form of energy
