Welcome to Phys 211!
Final exam massmail sent 4/20.
Important information for late registering students:
- Please carefully read the course website to ensure you are aware of all the course components.
- All students will receive credit for all week 1 assignments.
- All students will receive credit for lecture attendance in week 2.
- Any missed prelectures or checkpoints beginning in week 2 will count toward your 3 drops for each.
- Any missed lectures beginning in week 3 will count toward your 5 automatically excused lecture absences.
- Homeworks 1-4 are open for full credit by 2/8 (same due date as homeworks 5-6).
- Prelab 0 is open for full credit by 2/4.
- Please register at the CBTF to ensure you get all updates from them regarding PHYS 211.

Important notes for week 1:
- There is a Prelecture and Checkpoint on smart physics due before each lecture, starting with lecture 1!
- Lecture 1 will cover course logistics and lecture 2 is (optional) open office hours to get any questions answered.
- No iClickers will be used in week 1, lecture attendance will not be counted.
- Following lecture 1 there will be video recordings available on the PHYS 211 mediaspace channel covering the week 1 course material. Please watch these between Lectures 1 and 2. The topics cover prelectures 1 (1-D kinematics) and 2 (vectors and 2-D kinematics) on smartPhysics.
- Zoom links for week 1 lectures (you must be logged into your illinois.edu account to access these):
- There are no discussion or lab sections in week 1.
- Homework 0 (in smart physics) is due before lecture 2.

Lecture
Students must be on time and prepared for lecture.
- No credit will be granted to students attending without their iClicker.
- Your iClicker must be working to receive participation credit.
- You must bring your iClicker and note-taking supplies to every lecture, including the first.
- Please register your iClicker in the student gradebook.
- Be sure to refer to the iClicker information page for more information.
Homework
You can access the content at https://smart.physics.illinois.edu/ and you have full access for the first two weeks free of charge. Sometime in the first two weeks you will need to pay for access by purchasing a code through the UIUC bookstore. Details of how to pay for access are available via pdf.
Discussion
Students must be on time and prepared for discussion.
- Students arriving more than 10 minutes late for discussion will receive a grade of 0% on their quiz.
Laboratory
Students must be on time and prepared for labs.
- No credit will be granted to students arriving more than 10 minutes late for lab.
- You must have your IOLab device with you for each lab section (including the first section).
- Please review the required materials list to see what you need.
- You will upload your lab reports to my.physics for grading.
- Labs are due at 11:59 pm on the day your lab section meets. Late labs will not be accepted.

Excused Absences
- Please submit your excused absence no later than 12 business days from your absence via the Excused Absences application.
