Tension and
Acceleration of a Two-Mass System
As shown in the equations above,
T = mg - ma, and thus the tension between the cart and hanging mass is
expected to decrease when the coupled system starts to accelerate, in
agreement with these experimental results. The measured tensions and
accelerations are shown here for a comparison with expected values. (see
Lecture 5).
