SPECIAL TRAINING SESSIONS ON ELECTRIC POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

Data from previous semesters show that on every past 212 final exam, more than 45% of students lose points on problems asking to calculate the electric potential using the line integral of the electric field     -∫E·dl.

Therefore, this semester, the Physics Education Research group is offering half hour training sessions specifically focused on this type of problems. If you feel you have difficulty understanding and applying   -∫E·dl to various situations, feel free to register for one of these sessions via this link.:

The sessions will be held in the afternoons of May 6th and May 7th, in Loomis room 255.

If you are unable to come to any of these sessions, you could also contact Zhongzhou Chen at zchen22@illinois.edu to arrange for an individual session.

(You are also welcome to bring other physics 212 problems to discuss after each session.)

The multimedia movie used in these sessions can be accessed here.

EXCUSED ABSENCES

You must have something in writing to be excused from a class. If you are too sick to get out of bed you should call Dial-a-Nurse. As a rule of thumb, bring any absence excuses to 231/233 Loomis as soon as you return to class. The deadline for turning in your excuses is within two weeks of the absence. (Excuses from the emergency dean must be turned in within one week of the date on the letter.) Obviously if you are absent the last week of the semester or have not received your excuse from the emergency dean, you should bring your excuse to us as soon as you receive it. Excuses need to be given to us in person. (An EX means that the absence will not count against your grade, but an ABbecomes a zero.) Please make sure you know your section(s) and TA name(s) of the classes you missed. According to the student code that governs the university you may not miss a class to take an exam for another course. The course giving the exam must give a conflict exam. Be sure to arrange for that in advance!

Discussion Question Solutions

All discussion question solutions have been posted to help w/ your final preparation.

Please see the course description for an explanation of how this course works.  It may seem a bit complicated at first, but all the pieces do work together to enhance understanding.  The course description also gives important details on how to get missed exams, labs & quizzes excused.

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR I>CLICKER IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY

Once you register your i>clicker, your lecture points will appear in the gradebook on the next upload.

We will be using i>clickers in the lectures this semester. You may register your iclicker by first logging in, and then clicking here.
