HOUR EXAM 3 PICKUP

You should now be able to pick up your Hour Exam 3 booklets from your TAs (contact information at left under "TA information")

EXAM PREPARATION

We have assembled some old exam questions for you to use in preparing for the first exam.  We suggest you try to do these problems.  If you get stuck, you can click on a link that will present the solution to the problem.

                                            GRADE CORRECTIONS

Lecture 9:  i>clicker scores for the 2pm and 3pm lectures were initially graded incorrectly.  Corrected grades are now in the gradebook.

Scaled Exam 1:  The raw exam average was 72%.  The scaled scores have recently been corrected so that the percentage scaled score is now equal to the percentage raw score, i.e., no "scaling" was needed.

FORMULA SHEET: REVISED!

The first page of the old formula sheet will be available for the first exam (only).

Note that for subsequent exams we will be using the new formula sheet available on the practice exam page (and directly below).

DISCUSSION SECTION SNOW ISSUES

Discussion TAs have been instructed to give Excused Absences as quiz grades to students in discussion sections cancelled due to the snow emergency: D2V, D2Y, D3B, D3C, D3G, D3N, D3S, D3V.

We have also asked the TAs in those sections to distribute copies of the quizzes they would have given, and discuss the solutions to those quizzes during the first ten minutes of discussion section next week.

Solutions to discussion problems worked during sections are always posted at the end of the week, so you will be able to see how to do the problems you did not have an opportunity to work in class.

FIRST LECTURE ASSIGNMENTS

All students have been given full credit for Prelecture 1, Preflight1 and Lecture 1.   If you see a 1 for Lecture 1 even though you answered some iclicker questions correctly, that means that your i>clicker is not registered properly.  To register your i>clicker, first log in, and then click here.

The most common mistake is to enter either your UIN or your e-mail address for the "student id". The student id MUST BE YOUR NETID

WELCOME TO PHYSICS 212

Please see the course description for an explanation of how this course now works.  It may seem a bit complicated at first, but all the pieces do work together to enhance understanding.

The course description also gives important details on our policies for missed lectures, exams, labs & quizzes.

Note that the procedures for informing the course administration of excused absences have changed. In particular, you will need to submit this form whenever you are applying for an excused absence.

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR i>CLICKER

We will be using i>clickers in the lectures this semester. You may register your iclicker by first logging in, and then clicking here.

The login insures that your netid will be used as your student id.  If you use something else (e.g.,UIN), we will not recognize your registration

If you can't read your clicker number, take your i>clicker to the Illini Union Bookstore (809 S. Wright).  They have a setup near the coat check that can determine your #.
