PHYS 298 EL :: Physics Illinois :: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Course Description

Prerequisites

Physics 212, One year of calculus

Objectives

Physics 298 EL will provide students with the basic electronic skills necessary to begin laboratory work. Topics include complex circuit analysis, semiconductor devices, amplifiers, filters, oscillators, feedback and control, sensors for light and temperature, signal to noise enhancement, digital logic and analog to digital conversion. Circuit analysis using complex numbers will be used throughout. Lab work will progress from simple passive circuits to more complex active circuits. Students will become proficient with programmable signal generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, lockin amplifiters and microprocessors. The emphasis will be on lab work, supplemented with lectures.
