PHYS 435 :: Physics Illinois :: University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Physics 435 Advanced Electromagnetism I
Welcome to Physics 435 -- Class starts on Monday August 26. The class is taught by Prof. Hooberman.
Physics 435 is the first semester of a year-long course in Classical Electromagnetism. Electromagnetism is more than just a way of computing electric and magnetic fields: it is the first field theory, the first gauge theory, and a deep dive into the way physical theories of nature are structured. The text is Introduction to Electrodynamics by David Griffiths. I will usually refer to material from the 3rd edition, though as far as I can tell the 4th edition is identical.
Final Exam
The nominal final exam is Mon Dec 16 8-11 AM in 151 Loomis. The conflict final exam is Tues Dec 17 1:30-4:30 PM in 413 Loomis.
The equation sheet for the final exam is here. Practice problems are here.
Please email Prof. Hooberman at benhoob@illinois.edu immediately if you have irreconcilable conflicts with both of these times.

Equation sheet
The focus of this course will be on physics rather than mathematics or rote memorisation of formulae. To guide you, relevant equations are collected on this equation sheet, which will be made available to you during exams.
Academic Integrity
All activities in this course, including documentation submitted for petition for an excused absence, are subject to the Academic Integrity rules as described in Article 1, Part 4, Academic Integrity, of the Student Code.
