Workstation Labs
College of Engineering Workstation Labs
All engineering students should already have valid accounts on the College of
Engineering Workstations. Engineering students who do not have an account
or who have forgotten their password should go to any of the EWS lab locations.
Student lab operators will assist users by creating new accounts or assigning
new passwords.
Note: Special arrangements need to be made for Non Engineering
students. Non-Engineering students who are enrolled in engineering classes
are eligible for temporary accounts. The temporary account will be valid
for one academic semester.
- Each student engineering account will remain active as long as the
individual is registered as a student in the College of Engineering.
Every account will have a single login, password and home directory.
The home directory will be
limited to a maximum of 2MB of disk storage.
- Students enrolled in classes which have requested access to the
workstations will receive an additional "work area" for each such class.
Access to these work areas will be activated by the student typing a
"Class Access Command" which will automatically setup the student's
work environment and take the student to that work area.
- Disk usage of each student work environment
will be regulated by disk quotas. It is important for students to keep
an eye on their disk usage and quickly remove any unneeded files. Also,
there is a file system named "/scratch" which is available for temporary
file storage (files are automatically deleted in 24 hours and the entire
/scratch area is completely erased every Tuesday Morning at 6:00am). Please
read the "EWS Users Guide" for more information on
conserving disk space.
- All student work areas will be removed 5 days after the last day of final
exams. All student home directories will be preserved. Students wishing to
preserve their work areas may utilize any of the 4mm tape drives or diskette
drives attached to each of the workstation platforms (See EWS Users Guide)
Temporay student accounts (Non-Engineering Students) will be removed 5
days after the last day of final exams.
Please DO NOT use the printers for printing class notes.
Class notes should either be viewed on-line or made available in hardcopy
at one of the copy shops.
