Program in Arms Control & Domestic and International Security (ACDIS)
PHYS / GLBL 280 faculty and students with an interest in arms control and security can participate in ACDIS, "an interdisciplinary venture at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign that facilitates objective research, academics, and outreach about international security issues within the academic and policymaking communities." You will hear us refer to ACDIS throughout the course because of our closely shared concerns. For undergraduates, ACDIS offers
- events/seminars you can attend,
- a student-led research journal in which you can publish: the Illini Journal of International Security (IJOIS), and
- an Undergraduate Securities Study Group in which you can participate.
ACDIS also offers formal opportunities, through hiring student interns and providing an Undergraduate Certificate in Global Security.
APS Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction
The Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction "seeks to mobilize a national network of physicists interested in being informed advocates to policymakers and to the public on the nuclear weapon threat and opportunities for its reduction." You can join the coalition "to learn more about the modern threat of nuclear weapons, to advocate for common-sense threat reduction policies, and to share your perspective with the public and our government."
