This course uses the Web extensively. Internet access and a web browser are required for:

• textbook (optional)
• homework
• discussion materials
• grade book
• lecture slides and other handouts

Computers with appropriate web browsers are available in Technology Services, Engineering Work Stations and housing division computer labs.

Required Materials

For Prelectures, Checkpoints, Prelabs and Prelabs

• These assignments are accessed through smartPhysics.
• A subscription is required by the 10th day of classes (9 September 2024)
• Details of how to pay for access are available via pdf.
  • you have full access for the first two weeks free of charge.
  • on or before 9 September 2024 you will need to pay for access by purchasing a code through the UIUC bookstore.
    • The product at the bookstore is named Flip It rather than SmartPhysics.
    • The access codes are at the front couner, behind the registers.
    • You need to ask at the register for an access code for PHYS102
    • You may need the course code 99a4b52d to configure your subscription.

For Lecture

• you should be able to use your phone/tablet to access in-lecture poll questions
• there will be no zoom link, if you can't attend lecture you can catch up by viewing recorded lecture (including for week 1)

For Discussion

• Your laptop or tablet
• A calculator with trigonometric functions.
• Paper and pens or pencils.

For Lab

• Every student will need to have access to an IOLab device and access to a computer running:
• Windows 8.1 or above.
• A Mac running OSX 10.13 or above.

Your options for IOLab access include:

• Rent a device from Macmillan for the semester. IOLab devices can be rented from the following website: https://store.macmillanlearning.com/us/product/iOLab-Version-2.0/p/1464101469.
  (NOTE: Use the code SHIPFREE at checkout and the shipping will be free).
  • If you are buying or renting a device on-line you should do this as soon as possible since shipping can take 1-2 weeks.
  • If you have any problems with the Macmillan website or concerns about the delivery of your device:
    • Go to https://mhe.my.site.com/macmillanlearning/s/iolab.
• Purchase a new or used IOLab from the Bookstore
• Buy an IOLab from another student on campus
• Arrange to share with a friend or roommate
• Use one of the Course Reserve IOLabs at Grainger Library to complete Prelabs; Arrange with your lab group to share IOLabs in class.
