PHYS 110 is your welcome and introduction to the University of Illinois Department of Physics! In this course, we will explore our student organizations and support resources, talk about how to succeed as a physics student, examine the physics curriculum, discuss the history of our fantastic department, review future career paths, and survey research opportunities.
PHYS 110 will be entirely IN PERSON in Loomis 141 this semester.
Physics Welcome Week starts with the Pizza on the Patio, Monday, Aug. 26, 2024 @5PM on the MRL Patio. Come and meet your fellow classmates, peer mentors, and faculty!

Your grade in PHYS 110 will be either satisfactory (S) or unsatisfactory (U). There are four required assignments that you must complete in addition to submitting your coursework to receive an S:
- You must complete the Division of Research Safety online Laboratory Safety Training (https://ovcrportal.research.illinois.edu/Training/Overview.aspx?TrainingId=67) and email the certificate of completion to majones2@illinois.edu. Check the schedule for the due date.
- You must complete a 4-year academic plan, discuss it with your peer mentor, and submit the form with your peer mentor's signature to Merissa Milton (majones2@illinois.edu).
- You must fill out your information in the Undergraduate Research Readiness Portal.
- You must participate in 6 (out of 8) classes. Participation will be monitored.

Important Information
Sexual Misconduct Reporting Obligation

Academic Integrity

Ignorance is not an excuse for any academic dishonesty. It is your responsibility to read this policy to avoid any misunderstanding. Do not hesitate to ask the instructor(s) if you are ever in doubt about what constitutes plagiarism, cheating, or any other breach of academic integrity.
Religious Observances
Illinois law requires the University to reasonably accommodate its students' religious beliefs, observances, and practices in regard to admissions, class attendance, and the scheduling of examinations and work requirements. You should examine this syllabus at the beginning of the semester for potential conflicts between course deadlines and any of your religious observances. Anti-Racism and Inclusivity Statement
The intent is to raise student and instructor awareness of the ongoing threat of bias and racism and of the need to take personal responsibility in creating an inclusive learning environment.
