Course Grading
Gradebook
You will be able to view your grades on all components of the course in the gradebook. Check that your homework and discussion problem set grades are correctly entered in the gradebook.
Any discrepancies found in your student gradebook should be brought to the attention of your section instructor immediately.
Grading
Your final grade for PHYS 325 will be based upon your total score on all the components of the course. The total possible score is 1000 points.
Everyone starts with 0 credit points (CPs). You gain CPs by doing homework, attending discussions, attending lectures, and taking the midterm and final exams. There will be 11 homework sets and in total they will be worth 30% of your grade. There will be 13 discussion sessions, and attending them will be worth 13% of your grade. Attending Lectures will make up 4% of your grade. There will be two midterm exams worth 16% each and one final exam worth 21% of your grade.
Homework grading policies:
- Unless a valid, verifiable excuse is given, homework sets which are submitted up to one week late will receive a 20% penalty. (Note: it doesn't matter if you are one second or one day later: by being late you automatically receive the penalty.) Homework sets which are turned in more than a week late will receive no credit.
- After each homework assignment grading has been published on Gradescope, submit your regrade request within 5 days. After this period, regrade request will no longer be accepted.
Discussions are graded on participation. Your TA may reduce attendance points if you do something else. In particular, if you have questions about the homework, do so in the office hours. Late policy: if you are more than 10 minutes late, your score will be reduced by 20%. Being more than 30 minutes late counts as absence.
You can earn up to 28 bonus points (2 points per week) by asking and answering questions in the office hours.
