Course Grading

Warning: HW partition between computational and regular is still under construction!

Course grading will proceed in compliance with University policy as given in Article 3, Part 1 of the Student Code.

Homework will be submitted via gradescope.  Late assignments will be marked down 20% for each business day beyond the due date, i.e., if your raw score is x, your score one day late would be 0.8 x.  No homework can be accepted for credit after solutions have been posted. The homework sets must be clearly written.

Gradebook

You will be able to view your grades on all components of the course using the course Gradebook.

AI Usage statement

Generative AI, such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and Gemini, can answer questions and generate text, images, and other media.  The appropriate use of generative AI varies from course to course.  In PHY 487, the use of generative AI for assistance in completing HW is not allowed.  While generative AI tools have their place in physics, for the specific purposes of completing HW in PHY 487, their use hinders the learning process and therefore is not allowed.

If you choose to use generative AI to help you study for exams, you must document and attribute all AI contributions to your coursework and take full responsibility for the contributions including the accuracy of the information and reliability of sources.  Specifically for permitted usage in PHYS 487, this means that when using generative AI for exam review, you must keep a journal documenting prompts, AI responses, and your usage.  Your instructor may ask you to provide this documentation.

If you have a question about the use of Generative AI, please reach out to your instructors.  Failure to abide by these guidelines is a violation of academic integrity.
