Course Description

Overview

4+4 hours every Tuesday and Wednesday
Occasional after hours access to the lab to finish work may be necessary.
The concepts of experimental research in the following areas of physics research will be covered:

condensed matter
atomic physics
quantum optics
nuclear and particle physics

Please be sure to review the experiments page to see the listing of experiments you'll be doing in this course.

You will be expected to prepare a total of 4 writing lab reports in this course, as well as 2 scientific talks.

Course components

Formal reports: physics case, quality of results, depth of analysis, conclusions
Oral reports: motivation, organization of presentation; fielding questions
Experiment documentation: elog reports, shift summaries, plot quality
