An introduction to Physics Education Research: This course will introduce theoretical topics in Physics Education Research, including:
- cognitive models of conceptual knowledge
- personal epistemologies in science
- principles of problem solving
- transfer and adaptive expertise
- responsive teaching
- sociocultural theories of learning applied to college STEM courses
- and more!
Although the applied focus of the course is undergraduate physics, the theoretical focus will span K-20 settings and various math, science, and engineering topics.
Assignments will consist of reading research papers and studying college-level STEM curricula. There will also be three student projects in this course:
- Conducting a clinical interview to investigate how an interviewee thinks about a STEM topic.
- Conducting a mini literature review for a topic relevant to one’s interests/research.
- Designing and testing an instructional activity.
