Exam 3
The 3rd mid-term exam takes place from 9-11 November 2021. The exams are administered by the College of Engineering Computer-Based Testing Facility (CBTF): https://cbtf.engr.illinois.edu.
All exams must be scheduled in advance using the CBTF scheduling system.. Don't wait until the last minute to register for your exam! Time slots fill up quickly, and we can not transfer you into a full time slot. Missing an exam because you missed to register may result in an unexcused absence.

If you need to transfer online due to, e.g. quarantine / isolation, please contact Prof. Witek (hwitek @ Illinois.edu) until 11/04/2021. After 11/04/2021, you need to submit an excused absence request.

Welcome to Phys 101! In this course you will learn about Newton's laws of gravitation (the famous apple falling on your head), work and energy, rotational motions, fluids, waves and thermodynamics. We are looking forward to working with you! On this website you will find all the information about the course.
Important: You need to complete your first Prelecture and Checkpoint before you go to your first lecture. See the section on "flipitPhysics" for details.
flipitPhysics
You will need to get flipitPhysics access and do the first Prelecture and Checkpoint before you go to the first lecture.
- Go to http://flipitphysics.com.
- Click on the Register button, and create an account using your < NetID@illinois.edu > email address
- Complete your profile, then click on the Enrollments Tab
- Click on the Join a Course link and enter UIP101FA21
- Enter your NetID (i.e. whatever is in front of @illinois.edu in your email address) and click Enroll Course
- You can purchase access through the U of I Bookstore bundled with the electronic book, or you can purchase just the FlipItPhysics access for 6 months through MacMillan.
You will need to join a second (FREE) FlipItPhysics class in order to have access to the course lab materials. The instructions below assume you have already signed up for FlipItPhysics as described above.
- Go to http://flipitphysics.com and log into your account, (or if you are already logged in just click the account link at the top).
- Click on the Join a Course link and enter code UIP101FA21_LAB
- Enter your NetID (e.g. whatever is in front of @illinois.edu in your email address) and click Enroll Course
Lecture
Students must be on time and prepared for the lecture. Lectures take place in person on Mondays and Wednesdays from 13:00-13:50 CDT and from 14:00 - 14:50 CDT in 141 Loomis Laboratory.
- You will upload your one-minute paper answers to GradeScope for review.
- For remote learners: review the Lecture Zoom Links to get the link for your lecture section. Remember to update to the latest zoom version (as of 8 August 2021). The online lecture takes place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 13:00-13:50 CDT .
- Recorded lectures will be available on the Mediaspace Phys101 channel.
Discussion
Students must be on time and prepared for discussion.
- Remote learners: Discussion sections will be held over Zoom.
- You will upload your discussion problems to GradeScope for grading.
- After uploading your problems you will take a quiz by going to PrairieLearn.
- Students arriving more than 10 minutes late for discussion will receive a grade of 0% on their quiz.
- For each discussion section (including the first section) you must have your:
- Laptop or tablet
- Paper and writing utensils
- Calculator
Laboratory
Please review the required materials list to see what you need.
Students must be on time and prepared for labs. All but one lab sections take place in person in 4018 Campus Instructional Facility.
- You will do a hands-on Pre-Lab activity using your IOLab device before every lab, guided by theFlipItPhysics Lab course you signed up for above. In your weekly lab section you will work in groups to design and understand experiments and experimental data, also using your IOLab device.
- You will upload your lab reports to the gradebook by using this link.
- Online-only lab section will be meeting using Zoom, see Lab Zoom Links for more information.
