Prerequisites: No previous courses in solid state phsyics are
required. The background needed for this course is:

Quantum mechanics at the level of Physics 480 (Schrodinger Eq., atomic
orbital theory, first and second order perturbation theory, Hartree-Fock
equations for electrons).

Statistical mechanics at an advanced undergraduate level such as Physics
361 (partition function, free energy, heat capacity, Fermi and Bose-Einstein
statistics).

Electromagnetism at the undergraduate level such as Physics 333 (Maxwell's
Eqs., Ohms law).
